What’s new
Every change to the site that a visitor would notice, newest first. Each date is the day the change went live. Behind-the-scenes work — analytics, deploys, search plumbing — is left out. If something you rely on changed and is not here, tell us through the contact page.
New guide: WebP vs JPG, measured
We encoded 24 standard test photos both ways in Chrome and compared size and quality. The pages that used to say WebP saves “25 to 35 percent” now quote what we measured instead, which is less, and the JPG-to-WebP page now says when the conversion makes a file bigger.
Smaller video engine
The ffmpeg engine that video tools fall back on when a browser cannot do the work natively dropped from 32.2 MB to 9.9 MB, so the first run starts sooner. Its licence notice now has its own page.
Image resizer
Resize by pixels or by percent, with a quality slider and a “make it smaller” step for when a site wants a file under a size.
Audio converter
M4A, MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, Opus, WMA or the sound from a video, out as MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC. Four pages for the common pairs, such as M4A to MP3, came with it.
Audio compressor no longer refuses small files
A file that was already below the chosen quality used to be turned away. It is now compressed under its own bitrate, with a note saying what that costs.
Noise remover reads browser recordings
Recordings made in a browser (WebM files with no length in the header) were refused as unreadable. They now go through.
No sidebar ad on phones
Narrow screens no longer get the sidebar ad slot at all.
Tools come first
Every tool page now opens with the tool itself. The explanation and the ad moved below it.
Chat app size limits re-checked
Every limit in the table was checked again against each app’s own documentation, and the guide shows the date.
Video to GIF shows what the clip becomes
The result used to compare the GIF with the whole video rather than the part you picked. It now compares like with like.
A link click no longer loses a running job
Clicking a link on the page while a tool is working now asks first, on every tool, instead of throwing the job away.
Subtitle extractor asks before the download
The speech model is a one-time download of about 80 MB. The page now says so and waits for a yes before fetching it, and a bug that dropped whole stretches of speech was fixed.
Edit subtitles before saving
The transcript is now a draft: fix any line in place, then save the .srt.
Voice changer and SRT subtitle extractor
Two new audio tools. The voice changer lets you paint over the parts of a recording to change; the extractor writes English subtitles from speech, on your device.
Video mosaic
The image mosaic’s blocks and blur, for video.
Three guides
Compressing a video over 1 GB, emailing a video over 25 MB, and every chat app’s file size limit in one table.
Choose which metadata goes
The metadata remover now lists what is actually in the file, including iPhone HEIC photos, and lets you tick what to remove.
Social video resizer
Fit a video to TikTok, Reels, Instagram or YouTube frames and drag it into position.
Four new tools
Video to GIF, video to MP3, a trimmer that cuts without re-encoding, and an image metadata remover. The noise remover gained before-and-after samples and a waveform of what it took out.
Format pages
One page per image conversion people search for, such as HEIC to JPG, each written for that pair.
iPhone photos and batches
The image tools read HEIC, and the converter takes many pictures at once.
Image mosaic, noise remover and audio compressor
Three tools in a day: cover parts of a photo, take steady noise out of a voice recording, and shrink an audio file.
Image compressor and converter
The first image tools: shrink a photo to a quality or a size, or convert between JPG, PNG and WebP (and AVIF, in browsers that can write it).
Faster video compression
Where the browser has its own video encoder, the compressor now uses it, and falls back to ffmpeg where it does not.
Morphable goes live
One tool: a video compressor that runs in the browser and never uploads the file.
