About Morphable

Morphable is a set of free file tools — compressors, converters, a trimmer, mosaic tools and more — that run entirely inside your browser. The site exists because sharing a file should not require handing it to someone else’s server first, and it is built and run by one independent developer.

How the tools actually work

Modern browsers carry serious machinery: hardware video decoders and encoders, a canvas that can repaint a twelve-megapixel photo in milliseconds, and WebAssembly fast enough to run a full encoding engine. Every tool here is built on that machinery. When you drop a file, your own device opens it, transforms it and writes the result; the network is not involved. You can watch this claim being true: start a job, switch off Wi-Fi, and it still finishes.

That architecture decides everything else people notice about the site. There are no file size caps, because your file never lands on a server whose bill would grow with it. There are no accounts, because there is nothing to meter. And there are no watermarks, because the output was never in anyone’s hands but yours.

The rules the tools are written to

Two principles run through every tool on the site. The first is that claims get measured before they get written: the coverage of the mosaic’s block sizes, the point where compressed text stops being readable, the largest file the video compressor has survived — the numbers quoted on these pages come from tests we actually ran, and pages say “we have not measured this” where we have not.

The second is that failure is reported, never papered over. A browser that cannot write a format gets that option disabled instead of a counterfeit file. A size limit a video cannot meet produces an explanation, not a ruined clip. If a tool here cannot do the honest version of a job, it declines the job.

How the site pays for itself

Hosting static pages costs little, and advertising covers it. That is the whole business model: no premium tier waits behind a limitation, because the limitations advertising usually rescues you from — caps, queues, watermarks — do not exist in this architecture to begin with.

Your files and your data

Files are processed on your device and are never uploaded, stored or seen by us. The site keeps anonymous usage statistics — which tools get used, how large the jobs are in rough numbers — to decide what to build next; it never collects file contents or file names. The privacy policy spells this out in full.

Growing, and taking requests

The toolset expands every few weeks, usually in whatever direction visitors push it — the video mosaic tool exists because people kept asking the image one for it. If something breaks, or the format you need is not handled yet, say so through the contact page; reports from real files have driven most of the fixes on this site.
