Free audio compressor with no size cap and no signup

Recording too big to send or upload? Pick a quality, or type the size it has to fit under, and download it. No watermark, no account, no upgrade prompt. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no cap to hit.

Drop your sound file here

or click to browse. MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG and FLAC, with no size cap. Stays on your computer.

No cap on the file

There is no server bill to protect here, so the only limit is your own device, not a plan tier.

No signup, no watermark

No account, no trial, no upgrade prompt on the download. Ads pay for the site.

Nothing is uploaded

That is why there is no cap and no account. Turn your network off once it starts and it still finishes.

Fits under the limit

Type a size in MB and quality drops only as far as it has to in order to fit under it.

How it works

  1. Pick a quality: High, Balanced, or Small.
  2. Optional: open the size limit and type the size the file has to fit under, in MB.
  3. Drop your recording, or click the box to choose a file.
  4. Download the result. The name ends with a short tag, like memo-8f2a1c.mp3.

Quality or a size limit

The three presets are about how much of the recording to keep. High barely touches it and suits music. Small is built for speech — a lecture, a meeting, a voice note — where the file can get very small and still be perfectly clear. That is enough most of the time, and the file lands wherever it lands.

A size limit is for when something refuses anything over a number: a 25 MB email attachment, an upload form that stops at 10 MB. Type it in and quality is walked down only as far as it has to go to get under it. If even the lowest usable quality cannot get there, you are told which size this length can actually reach, rather than handed a ruined recording.

The length and the number of channels never change. A stereo recording comes back stereo, a mono one comes back mono, and neither is cut short.

What it does not do

This tool makes the file smaller and nothing else. It does not remove background noise, does not even out the volume, and does not trim or split anything. Picking a different format to save in is a separate job too — here the recording comes back as the same kind of file it went in as, except where that is impossible.

WAV, FLAC and AIFF are the exception. They store sound without compressing it, so writing one back out in its own format returns a file the same size, which would make this tool do nothing for exactly the people carrying the largest recordings. Those come back as MP3, which plays on everything.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed cap, because there is no upload. The practical limit is your device’s memory. A ten-minute recording takes a couple of seconds; a twenty-minute uncompressed one has been through this without trouble.

Does it add a watermark or need an account?

No watermark, no account, no trial, and no upgrade prompt on the download. The site is free and paid for by ads.

Is my recording uploaded to a server?

No. The work happens on your own device. You can switch your network off after it starts and it will still finish.

Why does my WAV come back as an MP3?

A WAV is uncompressed, so saving it again as a WAV gives you the same size back — it would not be a compressor. MP3 is where the saving comes from, and every phone, browser and player opens it. The same goes for FLAC, AIFF and OGG. MP3 and M4A files come back as themselves.

Does it cut the recording short, or drop a channel?

No. The length and the number of channels are exactly what they were. A stereo recording stays stereo and a mono one stays mono, which is also why a mono file is given half the budget of a stereo one and still sounds the same.

Will it clean up background noise or even out the volume?

No. This tool only makes the file smaller; it does not change how the recording sounds beyond that.

Which formats can I drop in?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC and AIFF, among others. MP3 and M4A come back in the same format; the rest come back as MP3.
